This may be a "long" answer to my question...but could somebody please explain DNG to me...I downloaded it, supposedly...and I'm having trouble finding the file, using it, figuring it out. I wasn't even sure if I'm supposed to "Run" it or "Save" it, and if "save", then where, which folder/file?? Am I supposed to have a new shortcut on my desktop, a new icon within photoshop, a new icon in the Raw converter, a new menu item in "File" or "Tools" or "Edit" ???? I'm just confused. I've got CS2 and the instructions to download and install via the Adobe website are vague at best. It tells me to download it, but doesn't tell me where to put it so it will work. Maybe this is more of a basic "program downloading" question than DNG because that's where I'm getting hung up. Darn Vista!

When you download it, it should go into a "downloads" folder (where anything you download off the net goes). If you cant find it, open the searchbar in the Windows Menu (at the bottom) and type "dng) and it should find it. Once you have everything installed, you can put a shortcut where its most convenient for me. I have mine on my desktop, since I use it every time I put pictures on my computer. Then it's as simple as loading your .NEF or w/e file format your RAW images are using the program and converting them (which unfortunately takes awhile). Hope this helps.

The Adobe DNG converter is a stand alone application. I can't recall if the download came as a disk image or compressed file or something else that needed expanded, but it resides in the Applications folder on my Mac.

When I launch the DNG Converter application (double click the icon in the application folder) I get this initial screen that tells me how to proceed.
