I am doing some photography in southern Utah and am considering a detour to take in Monument Valley in two weeks. What are the options for photography besides the limited self- guided drive or joining a group tour? Are private guides still available, and is it possible to go out for sunrise? Any chance of photography group tours in February? If so, with whom? I would welcome any suggestions. Thanks!!

Koye Hozani tours owned by Tom Phillips is the best in my opinion.....went with his staff on a Hunts Mesa outing (which is probably not available in Feb) but his website says he offers sunrise/sunset tours for photographers and Im sure he will custom make anything you want.

I will agree with Joe. I have only been to Monument Valley a cpouple of times, both times included Hunts Mesa and both times we had Tom as a Guide for several days as well. He is great! I am sure that he will do custom tours as well. I understand that Tom isn't in that great of health, so there may be some problems there.

Fred, I think you may be right about Tom, but one of his sons and his nephew, Ray lead our group and you couldnt have had better guides. Hopefully, they are still with Tom.

Another endorsement of Tom Phillips & Co. You may want to start making reservations ASAP.
Note that should you choose an all day trip, a few hours between the morning and afternoon tours are left up to you to have lunch, take a nap or whatever. Also, light on the Tear Drop Arch is poor this time of year, so opt to spend the late afternoon in Mystery Valley instead of going to the arch.
Needless to say, if you have a cloudy day, then the tour may not be worth your time and $$$.
