One of my favourite animals, and not common in my local patch.
This doe wanted to get past a stock fence, and spent about forty minutes just coming up and down trying to find a way through, without success. I took lots of pics., but most of them had the fence in them. This was one occasion when she crossed the open field. The alert pose is where she was looking at a fox she had spotted.
All C&C welcome please.
Nikon D300 with 600/F4. 1/500 sec at F9, ISO 400 EV 0. FF, slight adjustment in levels, CS3, and sharpen for web.

very nice image - love the frost / snow, and a very nice pose.
perhaps a little off the top may help and perhaps a bit off the right.
Either way, I would be pleased to have this in my image collection.

Hi Mike, well captured.

Hi Mike, I've come back to this a couple of times and I like it a lot as it shows the alertness you describe and a real sense of the environment. I am still undecided about the vegetation at the top of the image, esp. that dark area as I think it pulls the eye away from the subject.

Hi Mike,
An absolutely super image with a gorgeous light. If it were mine I would have been tempted to crop this a little on the rhs and remove the vegetation across the top. This would place a little more emphasis on the doe imho. That said, very nice work, and an image I would love to have in my p/f.

Thanks for the comments folks.
Here is a repost, but although it emphasises the deer, for me it diminishes the importance of the landscape. Each to his own I guess.

Hello Mike.
Lovely conditions in this and a very nice capture.
I was also going to say it might be stronger with a tighter crop, but when looking at your repost I think you are right and it feels nicer just the way you posted it.

now I have seen them both ways, I like both and find it hard to chose a favourite
