After feasting on some mint chip ice cream from the Furnace Creek store, I walked across the street and tried my luck with this detail shot. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I took longer to find the right leaf then shooting it. I was standing inbetween a road runner and his path to water so I finally got see one up close.

Steve,
Really nice image. Fine sharpness throughout and I like the way the plant fibers cut across the leaf diagonals and sort of break up the "formality" of the pattern.
This is a creative and well executed abstract. Great way to use the mid-day light.

Steve,
Luminous, the light shining through this palm frond make the image. The fibers are nice touch that add contrast, just enough not to much. Great eye to pick this out from across a road.
Is it an optical illusion, a fault with my monitor or is my vision get worse with age? To my eye, the fibers appear to vibrate slightly to the left and right. Very cool Steve.

Great find! I really enjoy the way those four strands break up the diagonal bands flowing through the image. Beautiful work!
