This shot was taken yesterday in the Merced River Canyon along 140.
It was nice to get down 'n dirty again with the macro stuff....and not freeze your tail off in the snow.
How's this looking to the folks here????
I'm kind of new to macro so any pointers would be great.
Thanks for looking,
Jay
I like the perspective and the shroom, but like Jeffrey, I find the bright blades of grass ? in the background pull my attention from the main subject.

Hmm they are kind of like flashing neon lights in vegas.....
Thanks for the comments going to give it another shot later today......
What f stop did you shoot? I find that I get the best results shooting as wide open as possible (usually at 2.8 with my Canon 100 macro lens), thus creating more blur in the foreground and bokeh in the background. To get a whole flower or mushroom in focus, I do shoot multiple shots and vary the focus from front to back. Then I do my own focus stacking in Photoshop. Nice image...the red of the mushroom is beautiful against the green.

Looks like spring is going to be promising there...a minor nit is the background seems a bit chaotic...probably you would want to shoot more shallow to get those nice bokeh...

Thanks for the hints and comments . Not sure if I want to do the focus stacking thing. I've used it on occasion in cs4 and had great results like you say Tony. I do feel a little weird about it.
Thanks
Jay

Hi Jay,
I must say I really do like the colors and the light, but the blades of grass in the background are a bit distracting, other than that, a nice capture.

The colors are a bit electric, but I think that works well with the whimsical nature of this image. I really enjoy all the chaotic lines and colors springing forth in the bg. Works for me as presented.

I would have removed those distracting blurred blades of grass of varying colors before making the exposure.
