Check out this article in today's LA Times. LA DWP wants to make the Owens Valley the largest producer of solar power in the nation.

Has Mullholland risen up again? Better get the big guns out, everyone.

Where were the big guns when they snuck in the Portal preserve on Whitney Portal Road. This is not a fait acompli, But our slick mayor simply wants to make more money off this already tortured by Los Angeles Lake and valley.

This sounds sick, and not in a good way.

Apparently the big trade off for all of us with regard to air quality pollution, will now sadly come in some form of eye-sore or radioactive pollution. It gives me recall on a recent post from one of the NPN members up in Alaska outlining the issues with the scenery pollution they now face with a windmill farm on Kodiak Island. Needless to say, the eastern sierras has been the best of all playgrounds around for all types of outdoor enjoyment, but once the door is opened to development it will be an ongoing battle forever. :frown:

I'm all for new renewable green energy but can't they just keep far away from all highways designated as scenic? That poor Owens Lake is already so scarred up, what are they going to do after they're done there, blow the place up? It wouldn't surprise me.

It is fascinating to me that Lancaster, Ca. is one of the first places to generate the specific solar power of the future. Why can't they just keep confined to between Tehachapi and Lancaster? It all has to go somewhere, don't encroach on the poppy fields!
