Lurker in the deep
I have been working on a project over the last few years with British fish. Always wanted to work with Pike and now have the chance, they are stunning animals. Love the jaws like yawn. Taken in a large tank set-up, natural light, 180 macro, 5Dmk2

Hi Paul

How did you train it to do that  - I had a go a few years ago with a small jack pike in a tank but didn't get anything as good as this!

What were you offering him to get him to pose like that?

I like the shot, with the focus being concentrated on the important bit - the jaws.

Well done. :toast:

Really excellent image! Scary fish. One was pulled out of a deep west highland loch near us and it had an osprey's claws embedded in its back with tatters of sinew from an attack that obviously went well wrong. In another episode friends of my dad's had their wee boy attacked by a pike whilst paddling in Loch Lomond, with the fish pulling him by the leg towards deep water. It took a burly dad with a fence post which he was wielding like a baseball bat to get the pike subdued. As I recall it was estimated at between 40 and 50 lbs. Best to do this photography from the other side of a tank I suspect! I reckon thats not a yawn - he's sizing you up!

All been said. A great capture, and nice to see something a bit different.

Either he's small or that's a hell of a tank you've got!!

Great pose and set-up and an unusual image as a consequence

Like it.

A good image Paul. Like it.
Its good to see a bit more variation and to see more of our wildlife that we can find around us.
