I tried my hand at shooting a dance competition last weekend. It is only my third attempt at shooting people and I am open to all suggestons (as usual anyhow). It was actually kind of fun and the ladies were beautiful! Here are a couple of examples.

Great action and timing in the first image. The only thing I would suggest is showing more of the dancer in the second image.

Well, thank you for posting these for "critiques". I think you handled the lighting very well, and the shutter speed to freeze the action. What iso did you have to use? Both have great expression in their movements. I would agree with Dan on the second image to include all of the dancers arms. Well done, Kurt.
Cool! What's up with her toe in the second one? Ouch!!!

Thanks for the comments...regarding the second shot, I was trying to go for more of an artsie piece showing curves and movement, so wasn't concerned with the arms much.
Morris, I used a 7D, 70-200 f/2.8 IS and a 580EX off camera (set on a table about 6 feet to my right) bouned off a lumiquest (white card) and the on camera flash for the 7D (it also acts as a wireless to fire the 580EX). Manual exposure at 1/160, ISO 640 on the top shot and 800 on the bottom, f/3.5, both flash settings at -1 2/3 all handheld.
The BG was actually half black and was the judges table. Their were about three people behind her. I decided to clone the remaining BG the same color as the black table cloth covering the judges table.

Both look good to me!
Your lighting setup worked near perfect as far as I can tell.
