Whitney From the Gap
The gap.. . ?

If you have ever stood in this spot and tried this shot you know exactly what I'm talking about. Every ounce of balance and coordination is needed to get this view, well at least with just your hands, legs and a tripod hovering over the gap. I've heard there was an old ladder stashed away nearby, but who knows if its really there. If you try this view hopefully you have someone else with you.

I posted this a while back in ESS but it was a little too dark so I lightened it a bit.

Very well done, Steve. Great colors and composition. I first
photographed this arch about 8 years ago. When I returned
several years later, there was a ladder nearby. I haven't been
back for at least 4 years.

Yea... that spot is a really awkward place to be! Nice work getting everything in the frame there.

Nice shot Steve - I elected not to attempt it when I was there. One of the rare instances I decided to play it safe. Nice job dealing with the contrast too.

Kyle, I can see why but it's still a nice spot to shoot from with out the arch in the frame or catch another viewpoint. A hand held shot in slightly brighter light isn't as bad and still is pretty nice too, maybe even more familiar to the average person that doesn't wake up as early as we all do.

Thanks Floris

Robert, did you try the ladder?

Great shot Steve,

Excellent handling of the DR. Love the color and little bit of clouds around the summit which add to the color. Also it looks like a focus blend image since you managed sharpness throughout. Or else your f22 did a really decent job of it. But this is a difficult/near far exposure.

However I think to really understand your predicament it would be great to see a shot of you getting the shot. I don't know if anyone has ever taken that perspective. But it would help us who haven't been there picture the Gap effect.

Did you have to do a bit of mountain goat climbing?

Never been to this exact location, but yeah I'd like to see the balancing act that is required to get this shot too. Did you take any vertical shots... I was thinking that might make for an interesting image as well? Good stuff!... colors and exposure look nice throughout.

Try the dragon's backbone on Thunderclouds Rd. But I imagine a FOM like me would end up stuck in a crack somewhere here. ....................Nice job balancing Steve.
