Spring's Early Bloom

With all the recent rains I decided to do an early scouting mission to Garrapata's Dowd Creek Friday after work. And I was pleasantly surprised to find the area in Full Bloom. Normally this occurs later in the month and into March.

All the rains had an interesting effect on the creek. It looks like some new boulders rolled thru and stirred things up a bit. So the flowers toward the front aren't too great - a bit smashed. But the mid to back area is very nice.

Here is the view from the mid area:

Here are some horizontal perspectives of the image posted which shows the abundance of flowers:

I am starting to see beginnings of other wildflowers as well.

Very sweet group of images. I like the perspectives, too. It could be quite a wildflower season.

Nice catch Derek. Nice angle and I also like the fact that you caught the wave breaking in the background.

These are some neat in your face Calla Lillies. Well done, Derek.

Wow, hope to make it up there for these. Yes, very in your face.

LOL...

Thanks guys, yes the flowers are so profuse in sections that they are literally In Your Face . From this perspective I was standing straight up and they were at chin level. And I not one of those super bowl groundhog midgets either.

For those thinking of going I would head there over the next few weeks. If you haven't been before just a word of caution. Beware of the Stinging Nettle plants. Be careful what you rub against and wear gloves. I have learned form experience that they hurt pretty good when touched in any way.

Derek, this is definitely one of the better images I've seen of these lillies. Very well done. I was planning on spending most of my time around Davenport this winter, but I might need to make it down to that creek as well.

Derek,

Very nice. I missed the bloom last year. So I will probably stop by this weekend if possible (family matters permitting)... Keep in touch!

Thanks guys,

Here is one more thing I have found in shooting Dowd Creek that may help you. Because it sits in the valley the shadows & DR tend to be extreme. So this day in particular had the best conditions for it because of the cloud cover and difuse lighting. Now when I go back I'll look for similar conditions. Clouds are your friend.

Very nice... classic capture of this place. I might prefer a little bump in exposure (particularly in the fg leaves), but other than that, this looks very good to me. Good stuff!
