Moonrise Over the Guadalupes
Taken on my fall trip out to Guadalupe Mountains National Park last October. The day was severe clear but when the moon rose over the mountains, I thought it had potential in B+W.

This one is from the LX-3. That built in 16:9 and 24mm eq sure come in handy and I put them to use here.

BTW-see a few more from the dunes on my blog linked below.

Yep, I'd say the scene had potential, and you did a great job of realizing the potential with this photo. Beautiful shot. I think B&W and panoramic were great choices. Placing the moon in the center is also good, as it helps pull the image towards it.

The foreground mound being right up against the distant mountains with no intervening landscape or transition upsets the perspective of the image some, I think, and gives the eye contradictory visual cues.

Darren, great choice with the Black and White on this one.

I like it. There's a sense of immense scale to this image, and also of a big, open sky. Nice range of tones as well. Thanks for sharing.

Great shot but is there some distortion that could be corrected?

How about making the mountain line more straight??

I would like to see a reprint with that done for comparison...

Thanks for the comments.

Larry, I think that is pretty accurate on the mountains and not distortion in the lens. This view is at about a 45 degree angle to the range so the hump is really just that the peaks on the right are a bit further away.

Speaking of those peaks the right most peak before the cliff is Guadalupe Peak, highest point in Texas. Just under 9000'

B/W definitely a good choice here. I like the feel of desolation and isolation it portrays.
