I found it an interesting and well written piece and i think it shows that Canon have just about got the MK3 AF system working in the MK4, He says it shows signs of brilliance but does have a few short comings, He also shows that where the MK3 failed dismally the MK4 shines, There is alot of uproar by the Canon boys but i think the only thing they see is that he rates the D3s slightly above it and says the MK54 does have inconsistances-Dont all Cameras, I guess Canon will take this on board and carry on tweeking the AF, One thing that came out of this is that he shows that the AF gets caught out with the colour red especially on bright days-thats got to be tweekable, Dont forget that he tested 5 MK4,s and some were sent calibrated from Canon so he is obviously working closely with Canon on this, People are bemoaning him because he has a Nikon advert on his site-well it used to be Canon but they seemed to have pulled the plug after the MK3 fiasco and as far as i know he still shoots Canon!! I dont see this as a real downer for the MK4,If a bird in flight equates to somebody running directly at you then you will be very happy indeed

I thought the article was balanced and would not like him to shy away from criticism. My biggest concern was how the ai autofocus can under certain circumstances jump ahead f the subject and front focus a bit.

I think the warning was because Rob admits shooting with the old firmware on 1.0.4, Canon rumors spoke to him and he’s going to be reshooting with 1.0.6. it was mentioned that the NFL photographers have been super happy with the performance of the camera.
The images show firmware 1.0.4 & 1.0.6 but there has been reports that the camera actually performed worse with the 1.0.6. firmware especially with the 500 is.

i looked at some of his pictures and thought the AF points were in some totally random places for the shots, ie basketball and the af points are on the waistline of the player not the head or ball ? I know several people that have Mk4 now and are extremely happy with them compared to Mk3's. Will be trying a Mk4 soon to see how it stacks up to my Mk3 which hasnt missed a beat really and its 2 years old now !
