I came across this odd scene back on December 30 in the headwaters of Herrods Creek. It's frozen liquid oozing out of a fallen Beech tree, backlit by the afternoon sun.

John, I have to admit, I have never seen a sapsicle! Man that is wierd but interesting.

Really weird! It must have been pretty cold to freeze sap, huh?

This would have been grounds for sorcery back in the day! Very strange! I've definitely never seen anything like it!

Who knew that frozen sap would look like frozen blood? Not that I've ever seen frozen blood, but I imagine it would look something like this.
