The bird itself is quite nicely detailed, although it needs rotating 5 or 6 degrees anti-clockwise.
The processing however really lets this shot down, not sure if its curves or the highlight/shadow tool that has been overworked, but the colours lack the vibrancy that this birds plumage has. I can also see a repeating pattern in the dark green background that looks like cloning.
A real shame, Paul, as I think potentially this could make a fine image!

Thank you for your comments have tried to improve it/.
The bird itself looks great and really jumps off the screen at you. Have you done a lot of cloning on the background? It looks a bit strange with a dark line running around the birds back and a light coloured one running around the birds front. Might be worth reprocessing it but masking off the bird prior to any background alterations.

Paul, the image is terrific but the processing in both is not good, not sure what you are doing wrong I am afraid.
The detail on the bird looked better on the original image, overdone the sharpening on the repost..
You also increased either shadow highlights or levels on the repost which wasn't needed.
The rotation works well in the repost.
Cloning on the back ground looks un-natural and overlaps onto the bill and crown, the repost look at the perch tip duplicated !!
Try the lasso tool all the way around the bird and perch/ right click/select inverse ?
Then Filter/Blur/gaussian blur at 1 to 5 % .
Not knowing how distracting the background is may or may not be enough.
Mick.
