Erik and I’ve been able to plan out the details of a Portland get together. Mark your calendars for March 20, from noon to 5pm at McMenamins Kennedy School. We’ve reserved the Agnes Kennedy White Library, a terrific room of comfy chairs and couches that sits 15, for the event.
We will start at noon with a catered lunch and drinks. Bring your prints for exchange, review, critique, or just appreciation. From noon to 2pm we’ll admire the prints, talk, get to know each other better.
At 2 PM, we’ll have a presentation from our special guest speaker. Mark Fitzgerald is an Adobe Certified Photoshop Expert and author of several books, including, Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop Workflow Bible, and Photoshop CS4 After the Shoot. Mark will present a two-hour program, “Digital Perfection with Photoshop.” Mark will also offer signed copies of his books after the presentation. Here’s a flyer for Mark’s presentation: Digital Perfection with Photoshop
Folks, there is a small catch to this event. The Agnes Kennedy White Library is free to the group as long as we buy $200 worth of food and drinks. If we have 10 people come who are willing to spend $20 each, the room will be covered and we’ll have a nice lunch with beer, wine, soft drinks, etc. The more who attend the lower the cost should be—provided we don’t all have too big of appetites, or are too thirsty. Anyway, this will be a Dutch treat style of event.
I have put up my credit card with McMenamins to hold the room. We have until next Friday, Feb 19, to cancel without charge. After that, it will cost $100 to cancel. So, we need to know if you’ll be attending. Please RSVP in this thread to let us know as soon as possible. By next Friday, if we don’t have at least 10 people set to come—I guess that’s 8 more since Erik and I are planning to attend—we will cancel the event to avoid getting charged the cancelation fee.
I’m excited about this get together, and I look forward to Mark’s presentation. Erik and I appreciate his willingness to offer a free program for the PNWNP group. I hope you all can come, let us know.

David,
UNfortunately, I'll be in AZ finishing up my workshop schedule in the SW. I'll miss you guys... Maybe next time.

I'd like to confirm my reservation please! It will be great to talk to some of you I haven't seen for some time and meet some new friends. Awesome! Thanks David for getting the ball rolling on this!

I want to be there too. I'm on call for work, so barring any emergencies that keep me from attending, I will be there. Thanks David and Erik..

I'll tentatively say I'll be there David. If I can't make it, and you don't make your minimum, I'll kick in $20 for your effort.
[edit] A family emergency just came up. I'll be in PA...
Sorry everyone.

Brilliant idea David. I have a bike race on the 20th, otherwise I'd make the drive up to Portland from way down here in Ashland. Too bad because I'd enjoy meeting the lot 'o you in person.

I'd love to join in, but I'll be in S. CA photographing away. I hope to catch up with you another time.
Please count me in! I look forward to meeting everyone.

This is great, we've got 13 tentative or confirmed so far, so I'll confirm the reservation with the Kennedy School. Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones!
I'll be there as well. I had to make sure it would work with other commitments and it does, so I'm definitely coming, and I'll definitely eat and drink my share. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you. I'll try to get some prints together, or at least bring my laptop in case folks want to see what I've been doing.

Under what light source will the prints be viewed? Ideally it would be a Solux or at least two of them for the larger images. What can you tell me about this?
Posted by David Bostock on February 19, 2010 at 9:31 AM
Hi Phil, we're not planning to bring lights for viewing, unless someone has portables to bring along...otherwise the lighting will be whatever's in the Kennedy School Library...

I plan on attending and bringing a print or two. Can I also bring my friend Ron who is not yet a member? He may also have a print to show.

Hi Phil, I think you'll be fine bringing Ron. We're supposed to keep it at around 15 people, and a lot have said they're coming, but I suspect we'll wind up with right around 15.

Craig Strand and I framed the print I wanted to bring in to show, so I may lug it in to display. It is a 30x40 frame, so hopefully there will be room for it..

I might try to make it as well. We'll see what my wife has to say about that
Posted by Phil Knouf on March 18, 2010 at 11:03 PM
David,
My friend will not be able to make it this time. Do you have a need for a large easel to display framed prints? I have two which I use for shows. Also, I could bring my Solux 3500K print display light if we can find a table to place/clamp it on. Just let me know.

Phil,
I don't think it's going to that formal get together. We're going to have some lunch, cold drinks, shoot the breeze and talk photography. Some folks will bring prints to show or exchange. Then Mark will give his presentation. I guess you could bring them just in case?
Posted by Jeremy Cram on March 19, 2010 at 4:46 AM
I've been out of the loop for a while now, but this sounds like a lot of fun. I should be able to get there.
Posted by John Williams on March 19, 2010 at 9:28 AM
Ned, I'd love to see that print and frame; Craig said it was very nice.
I'm also bringing a 24x36 framed to pass off to Andy for the upcoming auction, and I'll bring another one unframed because I currently have it. If room is tight we could rotate them.
