Ding Darling's Wildlife Refuge
Was in Florida recently and had time to visit Ding Darling's wildlife refuge. Great variety of birds this time of year. This one of a Great Blue Herron. 5DMKII, canon 100-400 IS. Be careful- wildlife photography can become addicting!!

I thought this Snowy Egret looked like the Nutty Professor!

I decided to darken the background on this Pelican for a different look. Does it work?

The Breast color feathers caught my eye with this Great Blue Herron.

Roseate spoonbills are plentiful this time of year but, normally keep their distance from observers. Hope you enjoy these images. I am new to wildlife photography and appreciate any input. Kurt Bowman needs to take that new equipment to Ding Darling's!

Very nice set, Bob. Looks like you had a great selection of birds to chose from.
The reflected pelican works for me.

You did well with "only" 400mm.

Great stuff! I'm heartened to see what you got with a 400mm on full-frame.

These are fantastic! Every single one is splendid.
And yes, the darkened background with the pelican works very well indeed.
Wouldn't have suspected had you not mentioned it.
Not bad at all for a 'newbie'!

Some great shots. I really like that snowy. I've gotten down on Ding Darling as the last three times I've gone there I haven't seen squat! I hope this means that it's making a comeback.

I'm heading there Thursday From Boulder, Colorado. Glad to see these as I've been hearing about a lot of winter kill from the cold temps down there.
