At Rest - Whooper Swan
Over the last several months I have been visiting a site on the North-West coast of the UK where Whooper Swans roost up in very good numbers after feeding at various different locations. Here I was able to get quite close to the birds, mainly due to lying in wait, well hidden for long periods at one of the places they chose to stay overnight in.The light was really poor but just to be this close to my favorite winter vistor was well worth the long, cold wait.

Hi Craig nice close up. i have a couple of nits i would prefer more DOF, plus the eye doesnt look right being so black with a black background. could do with lifting a little, but i appriciate the conditions probably wouldnt be good for that.

I might of gone for say f8 Craig but there is always for and against in this case.
Still a nice portrait of a beautiful bird.

I'd have to agree with Mark G about the 'black eye' Craig. Is it totaly black or is it just viewing it at small size? As for the DoF I tried to crop the image into a tight panoramic. Crop the top down to the birds neck on the right hand side then crop the bottom to about half way up the oof body. Not ideal maybe but just a thought.
Lovely detail in the head area though.

Not bothered about the DOF. Its a nice classic composition.

Great contrast betwen the yellow above the beak, the deep black eye and the white of the feathers. Very nice indeed.
