I've been spending some time lately playing with the flashgun that has been lying untouched in the drawer for a long time. I wish I had done so earlier as it really seems to bring out the detail and the colours once you get the compensation about right. I have cloned out the flash hotspot from its eye but that is all.

Hi Eric, yep a little fill-in has really helped here. Good colour and detail, especially within the chest feathers. The 'perch' colour I think works well against the Blackbird and background. I much prefer these view points rather than side on, as they look too 'managed' and set-up. Also there are enough tones/hues in the BG not to make it look like a 'studio' BG My only issue is the OOF rhs branch which is slightly distracting. Perhaps a slight tighter crop from the right & top, but then it might not have room to 'breathe'.

Hi Eric, really works well, certainly brought out the depth of colours.

Nice image Eric.
I was working on blackbirds during the Christmas snow in bright sunlight. Looking at the images after I was really struck how the name 'black'bird sells the male short - the plumage is full of greys and browns too; perfect illustrated here via the flash. Nit covered, really like it.
Cheers,
Chris

Like the strong contrast between the yellow and black and yes that flash as done its job well.

Hi Eric
Good use of flash, a very natural looking image with good colours and subtle detail in the black. Minor nit a little large in the frame!

A tad large in the frame, but a great shot with super detail in the blacks, spot-on!
The bird, BG, pose and exposure are all spot-on Eric. My minor crit would be the OOF bit on the right. Looks like you're really getting the hang of using that flash!
