This photo of the Painted Hills was taken at the John Day Fossil Beds which is 40 miles north of Prineville, OR. The image was captured at 5:21 pm. at ISO 200. f/9 @ 1/160 of a second using a Nikkor 17-35 f/2.8 lens at 35mm. A two stop hard ND filter was used to balance the sky exposure. Your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Ray

That is a beauty! The sky adds much to this...as well as the shadow in the hills. Very clean looking hillside....like stained dough. Actually, I don't know if that sage helps my enjoyment....I kinda like the f/g w/the little yellow flowers. Well done.

Ray, this is a very cool comp. I like the placement of the sagebrush in the foreground. The sky and clouds really add a nice balance to the rest of the image. The only critical comment I'd make is that it feels a bit over saturated. The sky's just a bit too blue for my tastes...I think dialing back the overall saturation a bit would put this over the top, as the comp is very strong.

I agree with Davids comments on the saturation, but besides that, it's a strong image. I love the sky, and good depth of field. Nice work

Thanks, Ken, Lynn, David and Ryan. I really appreciate the support and comments. I agree with your suggestions regarding the saturation level. I have posted another try. Please look at it with a critical eye and let me know if it is up to your standard. Thanks again for the valuable feedback. I love NPN. Ray

Much better, Ray. This looks much more realistic. And it really makes the image shine. Well done.

Thanks David for your help on this image. I agree, this make me rethink several of my other images. I appreciate the great advice. Ray

Ray,
Real nice shot, the second version is better, imho. As far as the comp goes, what about having moved a bit left but then looking back right. If you had done that, the far scene wouldn't have change but you might have tucked the sagebrush below that line of the hill behind it. I think it would have added a level of subliminal cohesiveness to the comp.

Nice evening shot. I like the toned down one. And ditto what Mark. H. said.
