Alabama Hills
It's a small world. I was in the parking area for the hike to Mobius Arch this morning and a car drives up. We talk, waiting for the sun to come up and out, and this guy says "Are you Tony?" It is Paul Duval, from this site, who recognized my photo and knew I was somewhere in the Owens Valley. We had a great visit, watched the light show, took photos, and then went to breakfast in Lone Pine.

Right now (9pm) in Lone Pine it is ever so gently raining. The sky to the north is socked in with clouds, but to the south you can see stars. This first photo is from this morning.

This second photo is from yesterday morning. At sunrise it was cloudy, but by about 9am the sun rose above the clouds and I took this shot. The light is too bright, but what are you going to do?

It's good to know CANP folks are out there in the Hills! It sounds like you and Paul had a good time, Tony.

I like the first shot, but prefer less sky, and more detail in the foreground. The color is quite nice.

I actually like the second shot better, and I don't see what's wrong with the light. You've got plenty of detail in the low values and the color is right on. I really like the clouds and the layers of color.

Like the sky in the first image and the foreground in the second. But you can't have everything, nice pics either way. The hills are alive. :toast:

The first image has painter's light in the sky and mountains. I wish the fg was a little livelier. The colors and exposure look spot on in the second image. Even the clouds have a nice complimentary shape. Nice work and story.

Tony
Been following your travels from Death Valley and back to the Alabama Hills. Based on your Alabama Hills images I've added that location to my to-do list. I really like the sky and snow covered peaks on the first image and have to agree with others on the issue of the FG.
