Photoshop problem
OK Samples above!. My images are often many layers, but for web use, they are merged, or flattened. The problem I am having is that sometimes the whole image does not appear on the web! HELP!!!!!! It does not happen all the time and that is what I do not understand!!

I am trying to get a new website going on Zenfolio. It is not all nature... sorry.

Well, this is a problem I haven't seen before.

I'm going to ask a couple of possibly dumb questions, simply because this is really odd. Maybe somene else can help diagnose the issue.

First is the website version a separate layer in the original file? I am guessing that it is.

What type of file are you trying to display on the website? Jpeg, tiff, psd, bmp?

With your masterfile safely stowed away somewhere, have you tried save for web to see what happens? It is not the best way to create a web file but it might help figure out what is going on.

When you open your image in the Microsoft Windows Picture and Fax viewer, what do you see?

If I absolutely had to guess as to what is happening, I would say that what we are seeing for the webimage is the top layer, and maybe the visible layer, and it is just that layer which you are saving. That is very much a guess though. I've never seen this happen, though.

Wild guess? You might not be getting it all pushed down to a single layer before posting to the web. When you use Merge Down rather than flatten, sometimes it doesn't do all the layers in one step. You have to hit Merge Down a couple of three times. Flatten Image squashes them all at once.

Dan... tiff, then resized in pixels. It may be the sequence as I did flatten image, Hank as I thought that was it since I usually just merge down... just not sure I did it in the same order as the ones that are OK I can tell when I pull it into iPhoto (I have a Mac) that something is wrong. I will try different steps and see what happens... as well as the save for Web option. These are 10-12 MB files I am uploading so that is not the best option.
Thanks..

Why not use JPG for your web posting? JPGs can't include layers, so they'll be flattened by default.

Now why didn't I think of that... just toooooo easy. Will try it!

The jpg did it, but they are much smaller images. No complaints here. Thanks Dave

When you say "smaller images" do you mean the file size is smaller? Or the pixel dimensions are smaller?

If it's the pixel dimensions, there's no reason that the JPGs can't be the same size as the TIFF. You might want to make sure you weren't resizing while saving as a JPG.

If it's the file size, well that's just the advantage of using JPG, which is a more compressed format than TIFF (whether the TIFF is compressed or not).

So much to learn! Been using PS for years... but never really got to understand and/or explore it all. Will be exploring jpg vs tif in size etc
Thanks
