Boxley Brawl
I'm starting to feel like a real drive-by shooter these days, with all the photos I've been taking just off the road. But I guess when I see them I just have to stop.

These two bulls were sparring this morning, along with two others that were on the other side of the pond to the left. They were all carrying on quite a bit with a lot of grunting and squealing.

I'm sure most of you will recognize this old cabin just off the highway in Boxley Valley, just north of the Mill Pond. If I'm not mistaken, I believe it belongs to Hubert Ferguson. I've always wanted a shot of this cabin at dusk, with the lights on inside, with a good snow, and smoke rising from the chimney...

D3x, 70-200mm VRII, ISO 400, tripod

Nice image Bill.

Thanks, Larry. Here's a little more roadside work - this time from Steele Creek. Actually, I did get around to hiking about 3 miles or so, up to the overlook. Then it started raining.

Both shots are really nice, Bill, it sounds like you had a pretty good day.

Bill I preffer the second image myself. Glad you were able to get out and catch some wildlife.

Great image Bill. Wouldn't you love to own that cabin?

The color and processing on both of these is incredible. Do you find the colors more natural on the D3x than the D2x? I was trying to wait for the D3xs or whatever but since they didn't announce anything at PMA I may just have to pop for the D3x.

Is the 70-200mm VRII that much better than the previous version like everyone says? I have the old one which works well with my D3 but not sure it holds up for the D3x.

Thanks guys. Yes, Ed, that is such a neat old cabin. I can't drive by without looking at it.

Ed, the color depth of the 3x is so much better than the 2x. The colors seem so much more pure and natural, and the dynamic range is eons ahead of the 2x. I've really been enjoying shooting this camera. Since I've never used the early 70-200 VR, I can't make any comparisons with the VRII. My guess is that you would not see a huge difference between the two on a D3, but probably would on a D3x.

Both are great shots Bill. I bet a lot of people would think the locations are somewhere out west if they weren't told it was Arkansas. I like the line and pattern of the deer.

The colors seem very natural. The first image would be awesome to see in a Real Estate magazine or somewhere showing the house for sale. Who wouldn't want to live there?
