Sorry Edwin dropped a clangger and missed that. It was 640.
Maggie there is something about a Barn Owl heading towards you.
It can appear as though you have all the time in the world when suddenly its on you and gone by, and the word is bugger it. Missed again.

Hi Major
Nice setting and light and the dark OOF BG really make the bird 'pop' - nice one!
Great shot in a lovely setting. The owl really stands out beautifully.

Agree with you Major about when one is heading towards you, heart starts to beat faster I've learned to wait as long as I can as they pick up you shutter noise very early and go left or right, the other day while the camera(D3S) was set on the 'quiet' mode one flew right towards me and over me the frame rate is lowered on the D3S in this mode, but try it next time, works a treat, back to the image Love the composition, the hunting stare, brillant

I wasn't sure about this at first as the background distracted me somewhat. As I've continued to look at it though I'm seeing more and more that I like, most notably the reflected light from the snow illuminating the owl. I think that as it's looking slightly down I'd maybe be tempted to crop from the top and right to minimise the clean/messy contast.
