A Chance meeting?
When I saw Tony Silciano's thread asking about the Alabama Hills and places to shoot and he mentioned that a series of storms would be passing through the area I wondered if I might bump into Tony as I was headed to the Eastern Sierra this weekend. Saturday morning I went to the Mobius arch parking lot, and sure enough I recognized the only other person there was Tony. We had a great morning even though the Alpenglow was shut out by the clouds, however about 15 minutes after first light the clouds started to part first over Mt. Williamson. The clouds provided great shadow play on the hills and wrapped themselves around the three major peaks Whitney, Williamson and Lone Pine. We had breakfast at the Whitney Cafe after our morning photo adventure. I usually shoot alone so it was a great treat to have Tony there to share what turned out to be a pretty magic morning in the Alabamas. Thanks Tony. I had a very successfull trip and will be posting more photos over the next couple of weeks.

This morning the alpenglow was not shut out, in fact it was pretty fantastic. I shot this at one of my favorite higher spots, I checked the parking lot, but no Tony so I went to this spot. I set up my Olympus with the 300mm on the tripod. ISO 100 for deepest color, F11 1/30 of a second exposure on this shot which gave me-1 stop for more saturation. This photo has only been sharpened no color enhancement has been done.

An excellent story, Paul. Not too often we catch each other in the vast outdoor field without prior arrangement times being setup in advance. The capture of Whitney is excellent with good color and detail as well.

Sounds like you guys had a good time all around. Then again, mornings in the Alabama's are pretty special. I particularly enjoy the way the deep shadows accentuate the Whitney needles. Nice work and accompanied story.

We must have just missed each other Paul. I went to the parking lost, waiting a bit, and also went up high. It was a great chance meeting we had!!
