I won a trip to Quito in Ecuador with a photo competition and I am now looking for more information on the possibilities there. I will be mainly visiting the area in and around quito, with a maximum of about two hours driving from Quito.
I would like to focus mainly on landscapes and would love to get some "foggy rainforest" shots. It would be the first time that I visit South America.

I'd do a private email to Avian Forum co-admin Nate Chappell; he probably knows Ecuador better than anyone else around here.

Both Yanacocha Reserve and one side of Antisana Reserve are within two hours drive, in my experience. Both are excellent. Yanacocha has exactly the cloud forest climate you describe, although there are no trees and shrubs only to 20 feet or so. Antisana is mostly above tree line, but has spectacular landscapes.

My Ecuador trip journal is on-line, if you want to review it.

Hi Bart,
The spots Jim mentioned are excellent for landscapes, particularly if you get a nice day at Antisana. An excellent spot to photograph foggy rain/cloud forest vistas I find is the verandah at Cabanas San Isidro Lodge on the east slope.
