Between trips to the Rocky Mountain regions I have to content myself with the more mundane opportunities near the Nation's Capital. Unfortunately, DC area winters tend to be "brown on brown" and not very inspiring. This winter, however, has been the exception. One storm of not especially heavy snowfall had just the right mixture of snow and moisture to coat all the trees and their branches with a layer of snow.

I converted the color image to B&W, and then eliminated the grays.

Wow, that's some intricate and delicate detail! Me likey.

(be mindful of the size restrictions on photo posts -- 720 pixels on the long side)

Very nice intimate landscape, but looks slightly over-sharpened.

I love the potential in this image! On my monitor, it appears a little dark and, as Dave said, somewhat over-sharpened.

I like the contrast of the dark and light lines. Nice.

Todd, I plead guilty to exceeding 720 pixels. It's actually 800 pixels.

Great graphic. Impossible to show well-sharpened I'm sure, with all that detail. Plenty of alternate crops here too. I also really like a square crop from the top.

I also really like a square crop from the top..

So do I.
Nice work, Howard. Leaching out the greys was a fine idea.

I like this a lot, Howard! I don't think the web presentation is doing it justice. I bet it looks great in print though.

NIce patterns, Howard! I wonder how this would compare to simple 'threshold' adjustment (as opposed to any converting or manipulating). I like Jesse's crop suggestion. :wavey:

Thanks, everyone, for your comments and suggestions. The square crop never even occurred to me; I'll have to give it a test print and see. Stan, my skills with PS are limited, I'm sure, compared to many of the other contributors to RMNP. I'm not sure how to work Threshold as you suggested, but I'll do some experimenting and see what develops.
