Death Valley Self Portrait
Here is one of my favorites from my recent photo odyssey, taken in Golden Canyon just before sunset. It is a pano, five vertical shots stitched together in Photoshop CS4.

I like the lighting, Tony, and the placement of yourself and the tripod.
Well done.

I like the contrast between the dark sky and bright ground (although I feel the left side is maybe a little too bright). Nicely done.

I wasn't expecting a shadow Tony. It's funny sometimes when you can't even avoid your own shadow, of course I know this was on purpose.

Well Tony,

Your almost lost in the landscape, but maybe that's you point. I've only been to Death Valley once for one day, but I found places where the ground was so reflective it was really bright. I would tone it down a little myself, but that's a personal preference and doesn't affect the impact of the image. Death Valley like many places of vista and grandeur can dwarf you and seem to reduce us to insignificance, but after all that's their magic isn't it?I think this image really brings this feeling out strongly and makes it work for me on a subjective and emotional level.

Now that's a portrait I would be willing to take. Nice work, start to finish.
