Got any?
What's the best method for mounting cotton rag, watercolor, etc paper?
I've been leaving a generous border around my prints, then using archive linen tape to make a "T" shaped hinge mount along the top border (which obviously gets covered by the top mat). The problem I've run into this year (haven't been doing that way for long) is that with changes in humidity (huge variation in the northeast throughout the year) the prints have a tendency to buckle or warp under the top mat. It only seems to occur with the rag papers, even 300 weight.
Short of dry mounting how do you overcome this?
Thanks

One relatively new product (for me) are mylar mounts. I've seen them for corners and also top/side/bottom. They seem to be designed to prevent the buckling/warping issue but my question is what prevents the print from sagging? I guess I'll just buy some and see how they work. Good luck--Larry

Ironicly, the mounting method you use Kurt, is precisely used to allow the print 'breath' and change shape. From what I understand, with dry mounting you can actually make things worse as the print will change shape, and bubbles will form between the print and the backboard over time. It might look better for the first season... but 5 years later things change...
Are you single or double matting? Are you using 4 or 8 ply mats? You can try a thicker/stiffer mat or a double mat - that might help? I'd be curious to hear any other solutions too!

I know Floris, the method I described is supposed to be the most archival as well.
I've made hundreds of dry mount, hot press, and cold press mounts that I mounted flat as a pancake because I've always like them that way for over 30 years now and I've never had one problem. They're stored in my basement under not particularly unusual conditions still as flat as the day I made them.
