A scene more common to the deserts of Utah and Arizona can be found right here in the Mojave Desert of California. It just might take a lot more seaching to find something you like since there are no iconic stand here spots so it's best to just wander.

Apparently we need more "stand here" spots! Really interesting FG rocks. Are they really that red or is that because of red sunset-light? The cloud below the moon is a little distracting though.

You know we probably do need more of those but I just like the fact that you can wander around and find your own and come back to it sometime if you want. I could see how that cloud would be distracting for some but it just doesn't bother that much. I know some people that remove the moon from there shots just because they don't think it will help the scene.
Yes the rocks are this red / reddish orange.

Very nice, and great location! Mojave is a big place, any clues as to the location?

Often the journey to find a place other than the iconic "stand here" spots is as, or more fun and rewarding as the captured image(s). This looks like one of those situations. Nice composition, exposure and color throughout. Good stuff!

Certainly worth wondering around when you come with something like this.
A good find.

Looks a little early westernish to me Steve, were you carrying your Winchester '93 as well? No kidding this is a great image and it does look "non" california classic Utah or Arizona, knowing it's California and pretty close to L.A. makes it's even more special. Great exposure, love the moon in photos when you can see the crater details.

Great light on the rocks, Steve, and the moon ties it all together, well done.
