Update: Free Calendars & My Book on Arches
Update: Since I wasn't at the shindig and couldn't give away calendars, I'll throw in two free 2010 calendars for any online Arches book order from an RMNP member...just write "2 calendars" in the PayPal comment box...in exchange, I expect a 5-star review of my book on Amazon  (assuming, of course, you don't hate the book). Act now! Supplies won't last! (okay, I'm lying, they probably will last...). Sorry for the blatant self-promotion...I'll go back to trying to contribute something useful to the forum...

I haven't posted too much lately, as I've been busy with a couple projects. One is finally complete...my book called Arches National Park by Day & Night. I've spent the last few years shooting in the park throughout the day and night. Here's a link to the web site for the book:

http://www.collierpublishing.com/Arches-National-Park.htm

I think (I hope) my photos and ability to prepare the images have improved since my first couple of books, and I owe a lot of that to the knowledge and inspiration I get from this site. So thanks to everyone for that...

Congrats, Grant! That's an impressive set of sample images. :toast:

Will it be available in book stores soon?

You've got some outstanding images in that book...congrats! Definitely exciting.

Congratulations!
I wish you the greatest success with this book. The images you posted are stellar (definition: of, relating to, involving, or resembling a star or stars).

Well, there's another book for my collection. The cover shot is great and the samples are making me drool.

GREAT cover image - really plays on the night/day concept. I agree, what a refreshing book concept. Congrats!

Awesome job Grant.

Wow Grant, that is really exciting. It looks like a terrific book with some incredible images. My only question is who actually took the photos?

Hi Grant...glad to see it came to be...is that Turret Arch one, one you took when I saw you last March?

Congrats on completing this project. The sample images look great! Good luck with your sales!

Awesome job Grant.

Thanks for all the nice comments!

Bill, the book should start showing up in stores in about a month...probably mostly around Utah or Grand Junction. But the review process for accepting books into the Arches visitor center and most nearby visitor centers can take up to one year. Ugh! Hopefully, Tattered Cover will pick it up too.

Cynthia, no, that Turret shot was taken last October...the Milky Way barely shows up in March. I think I did a long-exposure star trail shot over South Window that night but had to cut it from the book.

And Stensland, I thought we'd agreed that you wouldn't reveal who *really* took the photos in this book if I didn't bring up that episode in RMNP involving you, a chain saw, some dynamite, and a raccoon...

Looking really good, Grant! I'll have to pick up the book to get some new ideas of where to photograph in my own backyard.

Congratulations on completing this project, dude. Good stuff!

Bret, you'll have to order directly from Grant. I'm certain it will be banned from all Utah book stores due to excessive use of phallic symbols.

Hi Grant

Great stuff. I really like it all. All great shots and hope to get down that way this summer. Congrates on the book deal. Look forward to getting one!

Thanks, Grant, your book and calendars arrived in the mail today.
I'm especially enjoying all those night shots. :toast:

I think the book is a great addition to southwest photography, with some unique perspectives in such a highly photographed location. It really shows how much time you have spent in the area.

So, when will you be releasing the large coffee table version? :wavey:
Posted by Grant Collier on March 6, 2010 at 12:50 PM
Thanks, Bill! Glad you like the book. I was tempted to go larger with this book but thought it would be safer to go with a smaller, souvenir-type book for the touristas. And I was cocerned about going too big with night shots due to noise, but I think that wouldn't have been a problem now that I see the final result of this one. So if this book sells, maybe someday I really will expand it and make a coffee-table version...
