I'm wondering, what would I need for software to make a short slide show put to music. What I want to do is record something I play on the piano, and have several of my photos scroll through as the music plays. Thought it would be fun to share with friends. Thanks in advance for your help.

You should be able to use powerpoint in Microsoft Office, if you are a pc.

What Platform are you on? PC or Mac? iPhoto on a Mac can do slide shows as can iMovie. Simple enough to get music in to the computer if you have a way to digitize it or record it.

FastStone Image Viewer is a first-rate free software. It will do a full screen slide show and has the ability to play music. I just now added music to a slide show for the first time. Works great!

I just put together a 12 minute dvd using Elements 4. For some reason the newer versions of Elements stink at doing this, but with 4 it was very simple.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, everyone. My laptop is a PC and my desktop is a mac, so that gives me a lot of options. My piano will record, and I think I can plug it in to the computer, so it will be a matter of deciding which route to go with for the slide show. I've worked a lot with powerpoint, but I'm thinking the quality may be better with the mac. I do want to check out the Faststone Image viewer, too. I appreciate all the good input.

Microsoft has a free down load. It is called PhotoStory3. Well, it may be PhotoStory4 by this time. You get what you pay for, but I do believe that you can include a sound track.

Thanks, Fred. I'll check it out.

Photo Story does let you add sound. Not to difficult to use.

Thanks for the confirmation John. ProShow Gold is another one I have heard recommended, http://www.photodex.com/. just checked and a full version is $69.95. For what you are looking for Kathy, I think that PhotoStory will do what you want. Have fun!

I've done quite a few projects like you describe. I simply use Windows Moviemaker..It comes with your pc and is easy to use. Allowing you to adjust the intensity of the music and fade or otherwise the pics themselves...its free DAve
I think you can do it with Keynote on the Mac pretty easily? I've seen the feature in the program but admittedly haven't tried it yet. If I do, I'll let you know how it goes.
