Harsh Winter -Lapwing
Photo of this beautiful Lapwing taken at Carsington Water,Derbyshire on a very cold but sunny day.I was covering a story for one of the editor's of the Birdwatching Magazine ref beginners birdwatching walks that have been running there the first sunday of the month for the last four years. With the cold conditons there was little widlife around on the day so this Lapwing became the star of the show. This image was taken from a small boat, where the engine was stopped,so I could drift in close without disturbing this Lapwing that was roosting on one of the many small islands here. I managed a few images of this fellow, with the light bringing out its amazing colours.A great day was had by all, where is was good to help the birdwatching beginners, for the full story see the March issue of BW magazine

Hi Craig
Nice pic but it doesn't sit well in the frame somehow. Seems a bit too far up and to the right.
Good snow exposure though.

Agree with John, very nice image but I think maybe a little off the bottom and LHS will compose it a little better in the frame..

The re-post works for me Craig. The combination of sunshine and snow has really brought out the colours of the bird - often thought of as just a black and white bird by many. Nicely done

Cracking birds these, especially when the plumage it well lit.

The second one for me too.

I like them both Craig, but as in the second the subject is bigger in frame, that's the one for me. Beautiful iridescent colours in the plumage, really show up well against the well exposed snow. Congratulations on the story in BW magazine. :wavey: looks like an excellent magazine if you like our feathered friends.

Abeautiful composition, superb exposure - and the colours in the lapwing are stunning. :toast:

Both work well for me Craig and would suit different uses. Detail is great as has been said and I particularly like the sense of crisp emptiness in the first.
