Hi All
I've been an NPN member for over a year, but have not been active yet on any forums. I've really enjoyed seeing the great images and helpful advice offered on this forum. So, I'll jump in here with a post (hope I do this right). I'll defer a more detailed intro of myself to the other common thread on that topic.

The shot of this red-bellied was taken a couple of weekends ago. I was out hiking looking for red-tailed hawks and heard this little guy in the distance. It was a distant shot (this was taken hand-held with a zoom at 400mm), but I liked the branch patterns and the light background. Any comments are welcome.

Thanks.
Mike

Welcome to the MWNP Mike. I agree with Joe, the bird is sharp and a nice counterpoint to the rest of the image and the strong lines in the branches. The one dominant branch going in the opposite direction and right in front of the bird's profile is a distraction, IMO, and takes away from the other strengths. I don't know where you stand on cloning, but removing that branch (or if it were not there in the first place) would strengthen this already very nice image. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Welcome Mike. An interesting shot. As Brian says it would be nice if the one branch was going with the flow, but I never seem to get branches to cooperate much.

Welcome to the forum. Those colors sure pop against grey winter skies.

Thanks all for the welcomes on the comments on the image. I agree with the distraction of the opposing branch. I'd considered removing it, but I had other shots where the little guy was wacking away at it, so I left it in (at least for now). Thanks again and look forward to particpating.
