Not very nice but it happens I,m affraid, and unfortunately these type of pics used to be asked for quite a lot.
I nearly got run over myself doing this. Quite frightening when a lorry that size goes past so close.

I hope the trend continues, more images depicting other realities of the Natural World than just the beauty of it. A shame for the badger but well done for recording it all those years ago,
is that a steam lorry going past, John?
A very poignant image John, one you don't often see here, but I am please you have posted it, as it illustrates the scene extremely well. An excellent shot all for the RIGHT reasons, albeit a sad one.
Thanks all
Ian -you may have- its been used a few times. I gotreally morbid that year and did enough of these to fill a book. I did Barn Owl, Tawny , Badger, Fox, Rabbit, Hedgehog, Deer, Pheasant, Buzzars etc. I felt ill by Christmas !

You shouldn't have eaten them all then!
This is a timely shot John; around here there are dead badgers everywhere on the roads. It happens twice a year; in the spring and again in the autumn. Of all the hazards that badger people make a fuss about, namely diggers, baiters and dairy farmers; this reason for badger mortality seldom gets a mention yet it eclipses everything else as far as numbers killed are concerned.
The picture does everything it needs to perfectly - bet you got some funny looks though. eric
John, this is a very compelling image.
You might consider posting it to the Environmental Photojournalism forum so it gets a fair share of views and positive comments for a very good image.
Cheers!

A very powerful image John, which I've also seen before.
With regard to Eric's point about roadkill, it's perhaps worth mentioning that in some areas it's apparently quite a common practice for a small minority of farmers to shoot/poison/trap badgers and leave the corpses by the roadside to make it look like roadkill

Very dramatic and well thought out, I am sure I have seen this shot before but maybe not as I am getting old and senile

It's as you say - often common practice in some areas.
I have just realised, I posted similar pics of Barn Owl and Tawny a while back.
