Red Grouse (Lagopus Lagopus)
I took a trip up to the Moors with SJK this weekend, and we were lucky enough to get close to a pair of grouse who were busy feeding on the heather which had been exposed following the recent heavy snowfalls. They seemed quite oblivious to us, and in the light, the females colours were more beautiful than her mates....

A lovely shot Graham great colours and a complimentary background :toast:

My only nit is that the head could do with a little more sharpening ?

A classic Red Grouse image. Becoming somewhat of a cliché, IMO, but still very nice.

Cliche or not, still a shot I would love to have. I do agree with Ian about the selective sharpening of the head.

I'd say the head sharpness is ok, Grouse feathers do have a slightly soft look about them. Just slightly tight at the bottom for me but some lovely colour there Graham.

Thanks guys - I'd hate to think any nature shot was becoming cliche though -- you could apply the same thought to so many images these days ?

Anyway, I know what you mean Simon - I ran the image through 2 USM and smart sharpened the head as well.....

Always good feedback on this forum so thanks again chaps.....
