The original title I had for this actually made reference to Gene Simmons and...well, let's just say it didn't pass the Board of Title Censors, anyway!
It's Springtime in NW New Mexico. Temps at 60°+ and the snow is gone.
Great time to come on down and explore. You never know when something provocative might appear!
I also love this image. What a great comp - especially the extreme angle of view. The sparse white clouds are a refreshing change from the standard "magic hour" shots. Nicely done.
Awesome comp, John! Something about that perspective makes the tongue seem even more surreal than in other views. I don't think we've seen anything close to 60 degrees here in north-central New Mexico since November either. It's getting warmer, though.
I really like the comp and perspective here, John, but what really takes it up a notch for me are those clouds. They almost look like they're from a different image. Nice one!
Just curious, what wide angle are you using on your Mk II?
John, I REALLY like how the shapes play off one another in this image. I lvoe the half round rock in the FG and all the various shapes working up to the tongue shaped rock on top. Very nice!
Thanks very much for the kind words...I really appreciate 'em!!
For awhile there, I thought that the title was better than the image.../thanks for helping change my mind.
"Just curious, what wide angle are you using on your Mk II?"
"What focal length did you use for it?"
I use a 17-40 wide angle lens, and it was at its widest. As many disparaging comments as this lens receives (QC issues?), I really like it. Just found out that this is the lens that Tom Till uses with his new digital setup, so I'm in good company.

We have not seen 60 degrees since early November the weatherman said 2 days ago.

Thanks again, folks!
anyhow, cool shot, nice near-far comp!
