I'm planning a trip to Anacapa Island on March 13-14th if anyone is interested in coming along. I have a campsite reserved and a booking with Island Packers leaving from Oxnard early Saturday morning and returning Sunday afternoon.

I'm hoping for a nice wildflower bloom this year on the island. Let me know if you're interested in coming along.

I would totally make that trip but it's on my actual birthday. I've been there right around that time of year and it should be great. Very unpredictable weather out there. Be prepared for perfect conditions, fog, or completely sunny. Don't walk off the edge if it gets foggy tiny little island.

Happy Birthday Steve -- thanks for the tips!

Mike, I just returned from a 3-night camping trip on East Anacapa with my daughter. The island is very green right now and the giant coreopsis are at 60% - 80% bloom. No dead blossoms on them yet to speak of, and many unopened buds remain. Blue dicks are also out, though not in any density, and a few Indian paintbrush are showing too. With the current weather pattern, I think the bloom will be very nice on March 13-14.

To add to Steve's warning: Be aware that landing on Anacapa is a tricky maneuver and Island Packers may cancel the trip the morning of, or even have to abort the landing when arriving on site. With the current weather pattern, they've been having to cancel about a third to half their Anacapa landing trips over the last couple of weeks or so. This means not only that you might not get on the island, but you might not get off it on schedule either. Our 3-night trip was actually scheduled as a 2-night but weather forced a day's delay (no problem for us as that extra day was the best of the 3). Prepare and pack accordingly. Good luck!

Thanks for the great info Scott! Really appreciate it. The early weather report for next weekend looks quite a bit calmer than the past couple weeks, but I'll definitely be prepared to spend an extra day or so out there if necessary.

You probably won't need the water shoes since you can't get down to the beach, all cliffs.
Don't be afraid to carry more then you would like to since it's a very short walk.

Oh, thanks!
