Keeping Warm
Found this GBH this morning on my way to work. Had a nice spot in out of the wind and in the sun. Just looked sorta bummed with the snow and cold, probably not too thrilled with me taking pictures either, I didn't bother too long just shot a few frames and left.
Sigma 50-500 @ 536mm eq f8 1/320 ISO 100 Cropped just a bit to change position and loose a few weeds.

Great shot, I like the side profile shadow on the snow - adds depth.

Really neat shot Kendall! He seems so out of place. The shadow and partial profile make for a compelling image. Do you or anyone else know; Do GBH's and their ilk migrate, or do they stay near open water year round? Thanks for posting.

That's one grumpy looking heron, Kendall. Very nice capture.

Here's some info on GBH migration. I know some of the birds in the CVNP hang around all winter--as long as they can hunt in the river.

Great shot. I've never seen one in snow. He sure looks miserable,
