Hey folks, We had a wonderful time yesterday enjoying a beautiful day on a beautiful river!!

Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River. It was a high contrast day which made it a challenge to find creative shots!

Canon 5D Mark II
Canon 24-70mm F/2.8 L @ 45mm
1/100 sec @ F/8.0 ISO 320 - I used the higher ISO to let me stop the motion on the water. Slightly cropped and I boosted the saturation a bit to bring out the rich colors.

So please let me know how yall like this!

Rick, I like the comp, the various rocks lead the eye into the scene nicely. It seems a bit dark on my monitor, but I do need to recalibrate...Nice to see some of your work again!

Rick, I agree with david it does seem a little dark, but I love the comp.

Looks good, Rick! Darker than when we were there, but nice and moody. I like the stopped motion. I tried to smooth it out, and I guess didn't do a very good job... not enough water movement to smooth? Anyway, it was a grand day, especially compared to today– brrr.

So in my initial image I was trying to capture/display the rich blues and yellows. But it was too dark. So here is a brighter version: http://www.ramblinlamb.com/gallery/posts/20100306026-2.jpg

Hi Rick - nice work working the shadows and reflection highlights. I love finding water in shadow with direct sun illuminating objects above. The lighter version works. Had I been there I might have tried to zoom in on the areas of most concentrated reflection and looked for compositions with the most dramatic water. Thanks for sharing what looks like a great day out on the river!

Thanks folks for the kind words!! The original image was indeed too dark.

Sean I was traveling light that day with a 17-40mm and a 24-70mm. Had I brought the much heavier 70-200mm I could have gotten more up close to what you describe. The good news is this location is mere minutes from our home!! So a return trip will occur "soon".

It's supposed to snow in the next few days so maybe a hike/snow shoe through the snow at this location will be in our near future!
