I was hoping for a better sunrise, but my alarm went off later than I had planned and the clouds didn't line up quite right. I couln't get to my planned location in time. There wasn't enought gap at the horizon to let the sweet light get under them. However, I really liked the layering from a fresh dusting of snow.

Excuses Excuses! Next thing you're gonna say is that you had actually inteded for the Northern lights to be showing a a Blood Red Moonset while a Family of Big Foot Roasted marshmallowsin the open field on the right. LOL! Hey I still like it as it is. While it may not jump out and slap me in the face, the Serene calm and coolness it projects is something I would still hang on a wall in my home.

No. It was more of a case of things not going as planned with pleasant results.
Like James is saying, I was planning to go out and get the in your face fire and ice sunrise, but instead got this cool calm morning instead. I guess I didn't capture in words what I meant.
Reminds me of Belushi in the Blues Brothers:
"I ran out of gas! I had a flat tire! I didn't have enough money for cab fare! My tux didn't come back from the cleaners! An old friend came in from out of town! Someone stole my car! There was an earthquake! A terrible flood! Locusts! IT WASN'T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD!"
The clouds wouldn't line up right, eh? You need to call CCC (Colorado Cloud Commission) before heading out. Give them your coordinates and bearing for shooting sunrise at least 24 hours in advance, and you'll have what you need the next day. They can also do fog on shorter notice (just ask Todd)
Nice work here. It's not an in-your-face high-contrast, vibrant glow kind of sunrise, but you've got a lot of things working in your favor. The layering and the light with the subtle color all work together very well. Nice shooting!

LOL, I knew that Todd had to be getting some help. He says he's watching the forecast... but now we know whats really happening.
Thanks for the comments. I was very happy to come back with this when I thought the morning was lost. More than that, I was happy to be home in Colorado. The rest of this day turned out to be warm and clear and I spent it skiing with my Dad. Its funny watching a 60 year old guy snowboarding We rode the snowcat to Tucker Mountain at Copper and had a great time in the powder.

Nothing wrong with that shot, though, Mel.
