I consider myself to be most fortunate, around midday today I had a conversation during which I suggested that the Cedar Waxwings in the area were most elusive. Some fortyfive minutes later I parked along side a tree with thirty odd Cedar Waxwings. Ninety minutes later and 600 shots they were an absolute delight shooting them from all angles. In my eye they are one of the most attractive species.

A little bit of ego boost here I'm afraid as I'm breaking my own rules and posting a favorite shot.

Critique, Advice, Comment all most welcome.

Canon 1D3 canon 35mm-350mm @ 270mm ISO400 f/5.6 1/750sec Hand held.
and I was getting one hell of a buzz carrying a big grin :jump:

Thanks for looking.

Very lucky catch. The image could do with a few enhancements like: background, slightly better position of the bird but then: how often do you get the chance to get these beautiful birds?
Nice one

It's a bird I have yet to photograph, so hats off to you Barry, I agree with Rene's comments and maybe a touch more sharpening too.

I see your still hand holding that beast Barry

I'd like a waxwing shot too! What is the background?

This was very much a chance encounter as are most shots hence the hand held 35mm-350mm. The background is a commercial building facia Andy. The tree in front was full of last years berries.

Nice shot. I recently went to northern Baja California, Mexico where I had my first encounter with Cedar Waxwings. I was thrilled with the experience as well. We had stopped to photograph a Great Egret in a field and they dropped out of the tree above us to feed on berries in a nearby bush. :toast: :toast:

have been watching some of these and have been trying for a clear shot which is proving very hard then they get spooked by a sparrowhawk and clear off for ages so its very frustrating so well done for getting this

It must have been a great oppurtunity to photograph such a stunning species.
