My Deja Vu topic was a lead in to a weekend report from the E. Sierra. Well I was wondering if I was just going to hunker down in the cabin and watch DVD's all weekend with the wife. Last time two weeks ago I tried to make it to the Eureka Valley and failed, I chickened out about 12 miles out of Big Pine when it started snowing. After a morning in The Albamas and delivering breakfast at the cabin I was determined to make another stab at Eureka. This time I made it all the way to the dunes. Except the sky was overcast with nice filtered light for flower pictures. Undaunted I moved out a little from my Ford and took some shots. I walked back vowing to return when the light was better. I stowed the camera gear and was shutting the passenger door when I looked over my shoulder and to my surprise saw blue sky. Mother nature was saying, teasing me don't leave yet I'm just getting started. Then I got the Eureka Light show. I didn't have to break the Edward Weston rule of Artistic Photography not only was I not more than five feet from the car I was leaning on the truck to steady myself. Olympus E-500 ISO 100 f20 1/125 second for minus 1 stop exposure for maximum saturation.
It looks like a trip well worth taking. First off let me say I am not really a desert/dune type guy. So it takes a really nice one like this to make me say Wow! In this shot there is so much to take in and enjoy. It starts with the smooth sculpted dunes, to the mixed shadows, then the dramatic sky and killer clouds! Execellent find - one of the your best posts lately.

Well done, Paul. I like the way you've composed the dunes under that
beautiful sky.
Wonderful shot, Paul! I love that sky. I am not sure about the rocks in the foreground; you might try a crop to see how that looks. The dunes look nice, as well.

I like this one a lot, Paul. The white clouds and blue sky are perfect with the dunes. I bet this would look good as B&W too. Nicely done.
