Hi all,
One from the weekend. Very difficult to single a bird out for a portrait, so I decided to go for a group shot!
D200, 500mm
1/350sec @f8 ISO 100
C and C welcome as usual!!
Thanks for looking!

A species I have been after for a very long time. It is unusual to get one by itself, so the group shot is probably the best available option. You have focussed on the right bird, but the shallow depth of field you get with a 500mm, even at f8, means that there is too much out of focus in the frame. I seem to be suggesting panoramic crops a lot at present, but I think if you take the top off here it will give added emphasis to the bird in focus. If you have any more canvas, it would also be nice to include the whole of the bird on the left hand side of the frame, but where to stop is always a nightmare with shots like this.

Hi Dawn, nice capture just a pity that you could not isolate the main bird. Keep trying and you will land lucky.

Nice image, the eye contact works well but I agree with John. It would be nice if the bird wasn't so obstructed.
Well this is how we really see them. You did well to get so much detail on the head and eye as I find I often have probs with this area in bright conditions if I avoid blowing the whites.
