I've been lurking for awhile and absorbing a lot from everyone's posts. Time to dive in.
This shot is from the Seattle event last Saturday along the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie river. I cropped the shot to a vertical orientation to simplify the scene. I liked the placement of the rocks and tried to capture all the textures and subtle colors of the water. Your comments and critiques are appreciated.

I really like the reflected light on the surface of the water. The top third has a lot going on with all the different trees/bushes in the shade/sun.
Hi Michelle, nice to see you posting. Welcome! And a nice post it is too. I am particularly drawn to the reflected light on the water. Sensational! The upper third is good too, but I sorta think the two pieces would stand on their own better than they do combined. Now, realize this is my own perspective, but I love the water, absolutely love it. If you made any images of just the water, I'd love to see one posted. I think the harsher light on the trees tends to take away from the subtle, soft, and inviting light on the water. Just for kicks, try cropping down to till the far bank is gone and you'll see the real draw of the image.
I hope we see more of your work around here, Michelle, this is an excellent start.
The far shore is pretty common and obvious, so how about giving me a hint of it but not as much of it. That mossy area on the left and the bluish rocks below it might have been interesting and maybe telling me a little of what's beyond. Keep me guessing and wondering!
Ahhh! Michelle! Glad to see you posted one from our outing. Now you've broken the ice, keep 'em coming. Good advice already given, so won't rehash. Nice job of capturing the look of the day, especially the water.
