David Cobb visited Ashland to see some plays. It's not often I get the chance to photograph in my own back yard with folks from up north, so I took him up on his offer to get up early and head to Lake of the Woods for sunrise. We didn't get any color, but the light and clouds were dramatic...perfect for black and white treatment. Sadly, this is the only winter landscape photography I have done this year. Thanks for getting me out of the office for a couple hours David!

Sean, this is exquisite. Of course I love the B&W treatment. I also like the leading line there...kinda hard to tell the size of things in the foreground, but are those some sort of tracks in the snow/ice? All in all a sensational image. The more I look at this the more I like it. I do wonder if the foreground snow could be lightened up some, the snow looks a little gray...although that does add to the mood...Either way, it's a real winner.
Great comp. I may agree a little whiter on the ice/snow, but overall it's excellent.

Yeah...you guys are right about the low key snow. Not sure if that's the case with the master file or something that happened in the web prep. I'll have to go back and take a look. Thanks for help!

Hi Sean,
love the use of B&W, makes it feel real cold and desolate. Probably how it was! It's amazing how quickly the seasons come and go and before you know it, no more snow and it's spring flowers and waterfalls!

Sean,
This is the most impressive shot I've seen in a week. Leaves me with a deep feeling of being there, alone. Nice B&W. Kudos!

Thanks for taking me there Sean, it was a cool view. I think this morning there would have been color, but hey - love the b & w too! You got a lot of texture out of that foreground, and I like the comp also.
Good one, Sean. There are lots of subtleties going on in the texture of the snow and the lay of the land in the fg. Gets more interesting the more I look at it. And I definitely agree that it looks cold and isolated. I wouldn't say solitude is what comes to mind, because to me, that's a more peaceful aloneness. Desolate is the word. Good work.
Nicely done Sean! The leading lines of the shore really make this work well. I agree on brightening up the foreground snow. But that's a minor nit for me.

This is fantastic Sean. My only nit is for more room on the sides to give the distant mountain a little breathing room. Well done!

Nice lead with the ice! And also a great little cloud cap on the mountain!
