Zeiss ZF 18mm f/3.5 Distagon lens on a Canon full-frame digital body? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this lens.

Adam, this was a good test that I was reading a few days ago:

Well now...
Looks like somebody better get to work on a filter holder for the Canon 17mm TS/E lens like the one Lee made for Nikon's 14-24 ASAP! That is impressive. Goodbye Zeiss, hello Canon 17mm! Like he said in the write-up,"Coming in second to a $2,500 lens is nothing to be ashamed of." But if it's the ultimate in IQ you're after, sure looks like the $2,500 option is the way to go.

BTW, Paul, I'm sure you intended to make that link a hyperlink and forgot.

Paul,
Thanks for the link. The results are a bit disappointing.

Todd,
I'd love to get the Canon 17mm TS/E but unfortunately it cost a little more than my budget allows. I'm now looking at the Olympus Zuiko 18/3.5.

Adam, have you considered the 14-24mm? It is crazy sharp and you can pick them up for a reasonable price.

Jim, I have considered the 14-24mm but by the time I add the EOS adapter I'm nearing the price of the 17mm TS/E which I would prefer to have. I'm going to keep my eyes open for a lightly used 14-24, and if one comes available, I may grab it.

Anyone want a EF16-35/2.8L mark II?

Adorama has 14-24 2.8 Nikon refurbs for 1,499.00.

Kane, thank you for the link! That's very tempting.

I'll beat Todd to the punch and make the link a hyperlink.

Thank you...

Not to be rude, but I think we need a 'sticky' thread explaining the Text Style Menu and how to use it.

I'll give another recommendation for the 14-24. When I bought it, I figured I'd be shooting 18mm+ and wouldn't really need anything as wide as 14mm. But I have found some situations where I really can use something that wide. The sharpness is ridiculous for a zoom, the distortion is minimal for something that wide, the flare is minimal...getting an adapter from 16:9 could take 2-7 months, though...
Posted by Adam Schallau on March 11, 2010 at 11:54 PM
Grant, I appreciate the feedback. 2-7 months to receive the adapter? Yikes!
I see that 16:9 is releasing preparing to release version 3 of the adapter and they are claiming April delivery.
Posted by Grant Collier on March 12, 2010 at 11:47 AM
I think 16:9 always advertises the earliest possible ship date and then usually they don't achieve that ship date. If they're saying April, that's probably a good sign that their backlog isn't as bad and you should at least get it by May or June, which would be faster than normal. When I ordered version 1, it said it would be 2-3 months and it took around 6 months...I've had no problems with the adapter, though.

I see 16:9 adapters on FredMiranda.com all the time. There was just one sold 2 days ago for about $180. You can also find the 14-24 out there for about $1500 shipped.

Novoflex also makes adapters but don't know how well their made or perform.
