I like everything about it! Top shot of a not very easy bird!

Caught just at the right moment and I can hear it now.
Mimic the call Mark and you can set them off calling like this. They are indeed quite comical birds and look out for those squabbles that occur. The calling sometimes being a prelude to this event but the action that follows can be rather rapid.
Like it.

Hi Mark, congratulations on a superb capture. On my screen the picture looks a little flat and could do with a slight tweak in levels, but I am looking on my uncalibrated work monitor, so that may be to blame.

Nice capture and I would agree with David, either levels or a tad of contrast.

I agree with Tom and David that it looks a little flat though

Cool thanks guys, I am not sure what i am doing wrong, if i open the jpg in photoshop and load this webpage and compare side by side , the JPG in Photoshop has loads more punch, and the web image is flat, all my JPGs are like this. I convert the image to 8 bits, and do a few more rounds of USM. should i be doing something else to make the image ready for web.

I can never get close to these birds, so congrats on the shot Mark, as already mentioned, great timing to catch the Partridge mid call.

Are you converting to sRGB before posting to web ?

Excellent behaviour shot, agree with the comments re the image looking flat. This happens to mine when i forget to convert to srgb.

A fine image Mark and not easy to achieve, timed to perfection .A patch tool job to the stalk at the rear of the bird and the oof one bottom right improved it .Converted to sRGB and contrast added ,trust you approve .

Nice shot Mark G. The extra bit of contrast added by MD seems to have added to it IMO...great job to start with though.
