Hi all,

Having waited all week to get out of the office, this weekend it is cloudy and rainy "up North". Determined to take a picture on my new camera I dusted off the flash guns and set about capturing some birds around the feeding station in the garden.

This is the best of the day. It is not perfect and I will keep trying to improve. There is a shadow cast from the twig onto the far wing which annoys me and I should have spent more time selecting a twig now I look at it !

Canon 1dMK iv. 70-210 lens at 115mm, f9, 1/100 ISO100 and multiple flash guns.

C&C welcome.

Austin

Austin

I'd be more than pleased with this shot as is.

Seems pretty darn good to me and a nice chocolately BG too.

Hey Austin, so so close. :toast:

Would agree about your choice of 'prop' and the BG does look a tad like a studio BG  but top marks for trying something different and I hope you are able to nail it, not literally  Beats Cheetahs and Lions LOL.

Big congrats (oops wrong Forum)

Hi all,

Thanks for the feedback. By the time I had worked out where an additional flash needed to be placed, it was almost dark and the birds had given up for the day.

I'll have another go when it is dull and overcast. So that will probably be tomorrow....

Cheers

Thanks Mark,

I thought I recognised the Sea Eagle image from somewhere when I saw the Bebington presentation. Just putting 2 and 2 together...

Cheers

great shot, perhaps if you had been slightly to the left the twig would not cast a shadow. I have been doing a lot of work with small birds in flight this winter. I dont use flash but go for bright natural light and high speeds which sometimes means high-ish ISO's.

As Paul suggests maybe the way to go is high ISOs with high shutter speeds, nevertheless a very nice image. :toast: :toast:
