I think this is an environmental shot with a difference. I don’t post it for its artistic merit, it has none but, it does show I feel the ingenuity of nature. No sooner had these monster stacks of bailed straw been set up 4 or five years ago than little owls found a use for them as winter and summer roosts. There is one bird bottom left and one in the shadows, top right. The inserted bird is there as a clue! I love the thought of these little birds tucked up warm throughout this last winter. Any day that the sun shines they can be seen at their front door soaking up what warmth there is. I understand from the local barn owl man that some of the stacks ells where do have barn owls in residence and that they are using them as high rise nest boxes. The straw is destined for power stations and the contractor has been advised of any nesting owls. Last year he did leave moving such stacks until the autumn.

Good read Bob and nice to keep people in the know.
Kestrel is another bird that will take advantage of Straw Bales.
I always check out any haystacks as I go by just incase there is a resident bird on duty.
