i usually don't post much about equipment/software but i've been living through a week-long equipment/software upgrade "event" - 3 new G5s, 3 new cinema displays, new monitor calibration, new PS RIP, software updates... - all brought about by a big new adirondack tourism client

that said, i was looking around for raw conversion software for my new dslr and i came up ADOBE LIGHTBOX - it's available as a free beta download at adobe.com

i just wanted to mention that it is an incredible bit of work - even in its beta release. adobe claims it is intended for photographers and they are looking for direct feedback from them/us

it has an integrated library/file organization structure that is awesome and raw development (it also edits tiff and jpeg) tools that are way beyond anything i've seen before - as adobe says, many of the best of photoshop level controls.

i'd highly suggest giving the beta a try. there are 2 video "tutorials" on the download site that give a very good over view of the workflow that are worth checking out even if you don't give it a try

caveat - it is currently only available for mac but a beta for windows is on its way

let me know what you think - i think it's the fully integrated (direct export to photoshop) raw workflow app of the future

way cool

here it is

Hi Mark,

Dave DuChemin started a thread over at TPN on Lightroom. I posted the link rather than retyping some of the other resources noted in there. In addition to it's great functions you already mentioned, Dave reports that it is the best resource he has found for converting files to BW.

I went to an Epson print seminar where they did a Lightroom demo. I've been using Nikon Capture and Photoshop for a couple of years and I was really impressed by Lightroom. I use both Mac and PC but I use a PC for imaging work. Once Lightroom is available for the PC, I'm buying it.

I downloaded the Beta as soon as it was available, but haven't started it up yet. Mostly due to my not having upgraded my laptop's OS. I am still at 10.3.x something. Just laziness on my part, since I usually back up EVERYTHING before any upgrade. I guess I will just have to get busy, so I can check it out.
